10 SIMPLE WAYS TO MANAGE TOXINS

Toxins are in our environment whether we live in cities or the country and whether we have an outdoor lifestyle and love being on-the-go or live like hermits with our windows closed and shades down.

We can’t avoid noxious chemicals entirely. They’re in our furniture, clothes, food, cleaning products and skincare as much as the air outside near highways, construction, golf courses and farms.

Govt regulations in the U.S., at least, aren’t stringent enough, though the EPA is making strides with new restrictions on chemicals called PFAS. But the European Union and some other nations are ahead of the U.S. in protecting its people and animals. The EU banned around 1000 chemicals we haven’t in the U.S. What are we waiting for? More people and animals to get sick? The Environmental Working Group is a good resource for keeping track of toxins so you can better avoid them.

Some key toxins to avoid as much as possible are glyphosate, BT toxin, ‘cides’ (herbicides, pesticides, insecticides), BPA & phthalates in plastic, PFAs, VOCs, heavy metals, fire retardants, radon, glycol ethers, and organophosphate. Just know you’re not going to see “glycol ether” on the ingredient list of your make-up or sunscreen nor will you see “glyphosate” on your food labels, but that doesn’t mean the products are clean.

Here's a list of 10 simple ways to handle toxins:

1.      Avoid them altogether. Educate yourself. Read labels. Research.

2.     Replace products with clean, green products from skincare to house cleaning supplies to your dog’s flea and tick meds.

3.     Reduce use and exposure.

4.     Mitigate exposure with filters – water, air and vacuum filters, for instance.

5.     Gentle detox through food - cruciferous veggies and herbs like dandelion.

6.     Gut support through fulvic and humic acid/minerals, organic food & overall food upgrades to consume whole foods instead of processed foods and organic food instead of food tainted by chemicals.

7.     Detox through saunas, fasting and cold plunges.

8.     Full detox protocols with specific cleanses, supplements and activities.

9.     Testing instead of guessing - for mold & heavy metals, for instance.

10.  EMF blockers – some animals and people are very sensitive to dirty electricity that’s all around us from our phones and computers to routers and cell towers. Putting the devices in airplane mode as we sleep is one way to help. EMF blockers can also be purchased – even as dog collar pendants.

Consider the 5 senses and the toxins impacting them for us & our dogs, and know that the body has many detox pathways that can be tested, supported, and cleaned out so that you and your dog are best able to eliminate toxins when exposed to them – which may be every time you feed your dog or drink water or simply breathe. Don’t hyper-ventilate from this information – just focus on what you can control, which is a lot.
